Bible Verses About Anger
In the heat of anger it’s hard to tell how much of it is being wronged and how much is your own part. Sometimes someone crossed a line; sometimes the words were already out before you regretted them. The heat in your chest hasn’t faded, but you’re already tired.
Here are eight passages from the Bible about anger. They don’t say being angry makes you bad, and they don’t tell you to calm down right now. They lay anger out, one verse at a time, and let you read slowly.
What the Bible Says About Anger
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:1
“Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:26-27
So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
James 1:19-20
One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.
Proverbs 16:32
Don’t be hasty in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.
