Bible Verses for Anxiety and Worry

Your mind won't switch off. You're awake at three in the morning running the same worries on a loop, and by morning you're already exhausted. Sometimes anxiety has an obvious cause — money, health, a conversation you're dreading. Sometimes it's just there, a low hum you can't turn down.

Here are eight passages from the Bible about worry and peace. They won't make the stress disappear. But people have come back to these words for centuries — through sleepless nights, through stretches of feeling completely overwhelmed — and found something steadying in them. We hope they steady you too.

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7

Cast your burden on the LORD and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22

Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they? “Which of you by being anxious, can add one moment to his lifespan?

Matthew 6:25-27

Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this:

Psalm 37:5

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose confidence is in the LORD. For he will be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes, but its leaf will be green, and will not be concerned in the year of drought. It won’t cease from yielding fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life, what you will eat, nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they don’t sow, they don’t reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!

Luke 12:22-24

Commit your deeds to the LORD, and your plans shall succeed.

Proverbs 16:3
